Vietnam sends first female officer to UN peacekeeping mission
Major Do Thi Hang Nga of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre, under the Ministry of National Defence, began her work as a staff officer in charge of overseeing military operations for the next 12 months as of October 29.
She has become the country’s first female officer to join the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.

The construction of the Lao National Assembly (NA) building has begun in Vientiane in the presence of the Party, State and NA leaders of both Vietnam and Laos.
The project is a gift from the Vietnamese Party, State and people to the Lao Party, State and people and is a symbol of the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation that exists between the two Parties, Governments, NAs and peoples.
Russian October Revolution’s 100th anniversary marked in Hanoi
A grand ceremony was held in Hanoi on November 5 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Russian October Revolution (November 7).
In attendance were the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong, former CPV General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, President Tran Dai Quang, former President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and former NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, among others.
On the same day, a high-ranking delegation of the CPV Central Committee, NA, President, Government, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and Hanoi laid wreaths in tribute to V.I. Lenin at his statute in the capital city.
Storm Damrey wreaks havoc in the central and south central coast of Vietnam

Households living along the Tra Khuc River in Quang Ngai province are flooded.
Storm Damrey, the 12th typhoon to hit the East Sea this year, has wreaked havoc in the central and south central coast of Vietnam.
The storm had killed 29 people and left 29 others unaccounted for as of 1:00 pm on November 5. The typhoon leveled over 600 houses, damaged nearly 40,000 homes and flooded approximately 30,000 hectares of fields of rice, vegetables and other crops.
Around 230 fishing ships and vessels were either sunk or ruined, while nearly 1,500 fish farms were damaged.
Hanoi Sales Promotion Month 2017 attracts nearly 1,000 enterprises
The Hanoi Sales Promotion Month 2017 was launched in Hanoi on November 4, receiving confirmation from nearly 1,000 enterprises operating in the city.
A string of activities will be organised during the marketing month with over 1,000 locations offering promotions.

A photo exhibition featuring the land and people of Vietnam is taking place at the International Media Centre in the central city of Da Nang, as an activity to celebrate the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week.
The exhibition displays 100 artistic photos which introduce Vietnam’s beautiful landscapes, economic and tourism potential, and culture, as well as the life of the Vietnamese people.
CNN continues series to promote Hanoi tourism
The US Cable News Network (CNN) is continuing to broadcast its programme series ‘Hanoi: POV’ to provide its audience with an insider’s point of view on Vietnam’s vibrant capital, until November 8.
The series is broadcast on its channels across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
Accordingly, the CNN has agreed to produce 30-second promotional videos, three and five-minute reports and a 30-minute programme on Hanoi.
Vietnam ranks third at AFC U23 fencing championships

The awards ceremony for the women’s team epee competition.
Vietnam’s fencing team finished in third place overall at the sixth AFC U23 Championships 2017, winning three silver and two bronze medals.
During the six-day competition, fencers from the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Hong Kong (China) demonstrated their superiority, preventing the Vietnamese competitors from taking any of the top honours despite their presence in three of the 12 final matches.
