NA Chairwoman begins official visit to Singapore

Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan arrived in Changi International Airport on the afternoon of November 26, starting her official visit to Singapore.

She was welcomed at the airport by Deputy Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament Lim Biow Chuan, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Nguyen Tien Minh and staff from the embassy.

During the one-month sitting, the deputies adopted six laws, debated nine draft laws and approved solutions for the socio-economic development plan in 2018, as well as the State budget estimate and central budget allocation for next year.

Vietnam hosts 47th ASEAN Banking Council Meeting

The Vietnam Bank Association (VNBA) hosted the 47th ASEAN Banking Council Meeting in the central city of Da Nang, on November 23-24.

Discussions focused on topics, such as sustainable financial development, financial inclusion, the use of advanced technology, and human resource training. The meeting also sought to propose initiatives for cooperation and action plans.

First river bus route in Ho Chi Minh City commences operations

First river bus route in Ho Chi Minh City operates.

Ho Chi Minh City’s first river bus route, from Bach Dang in District 1 to Linh Dong in Thu Duc district, officially began services on November 25, after three months of technical and safety tests.

The route will be free of charge for 10 days to encourage people to choose the new type of public transport. Then, the fare will be VND15,000 (US$0.66) per one-way trip, with free tickets for the elderly over 70 and children under one meter in height accompanied by an adult.

The 10.8 kilometer route has nine docks. The first wharf is Bach Dang; the last wharf is Linh Dong. Other wharfs include SaiGon Pearl in BinhThanh District, BinhAn Wharf, ThaoDien Wharf in District 2, Tam Vu, Thanh Da in BinhThanh District, BinhTrieu, HiepBinhChanh in Thu Duc District.

Former Da Nang leader dismissed from chairman position of municipal People's Council

Nguyen Xuan Anh, former Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, has been dismissed from his post as Chairman of the municipal People's Council for the 2016-2021 tenure.
In the meantime, Deputy Chairman Trung will temporarily oversee the municipal People's Council operations and prepare for the year-end meeting, scheduled to open on December 5.

Activities nationwide in tribute to teachers on Teachers’ Day

Various activities were held across the nation to pay tribute to teachers and educational staff on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, which falls on November 20.

Party, State and Government leaders visited, congratulated and sent flowers to several veteran teachers, intellectuals and artists who have made great contributions to the country's education and training sector.

Vietnam wins first ever Olympic gold medal in Science category.

Vietnam has won its first gold medal in the Science category since it began participating in the annual International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO), held for students under 13 years old.

All 12 of the Vietnamese students won medals including three gold medals, eight silver medals and one bronze medal. Regarding the Science category, one gold medal went to Pham Viet Hung.

Vietnam Film Festival opens in Da Nang

The 20th Vietnam Film Festival 2017, themed ‘Building a modern and humane cinematic industry’ opened in the central city of Da Nang.

This year’s event introduced 16 feature films, 26 documentaries, 17 scientific films and 18 animated films, which were produced and released over the past two years. The video films category was eliminated from this year’s event.

Quang Nam crowned V-League 2017 champions

Quang Nam became the new champions of the 2017 V-League season after edging out Ho Chi Minh City 3-1 in the final match on November 25 to win 48 points.

FLC Thanh Hoa secured the second position, followed by Hanoi and Quang Ninh Coal.
