National Assembly’s seventh session closes
The seventh session of the 14th National Assembly (NA) wrapped up in Hanoi on June 14, completing all items on its 20-day working agenda.
During the session, the NA approved seven laws and 10 resolutions as well as discussed nine draft laws.
The NA also considered the Government’s reports making supplementary assessment of the implementation of the socio-economic development plans and State budget in 2018 and the first months of 2019, reports summing up opinions and petitions of voters and the people, the supervision of the settlement of voters’ petitions submitted to the NA’s 6th session, and other reports on the agenda.
Vice President attends fifth CICA in Tajikistan

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh attended the fifth Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) that took place in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan from June 14-15.
The conference adopted a Dushanbe Declaration, pledging to strive to turn CICA into a major multilateral mechanism to promote dialogue and cooperation in Asia through fair trade, market opening, cultural exchange, connectivity, tourism, and clean energy development.
During her stay, Vice President Thinh met with a number of State and Government leaders.
Overseas Vietnamese in France mark 100th anniversary of patriotic movement
A ceremony was held in Paris, France, on the afternoon of June 15 (local time) to mark the 100th anniversary of the Overseas Vietnamese (OV) movement in France and the establishment of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the host country.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Nguyen Quoc Cuong praised the important contributions that the movement of OVs in France has made to the past resistance war for national liberation and the current national development of Vietnam.
On the occasion, the AVPF introduced a book on the movement of OVs in France, and opened an exhibition on the movement.
Vietnam to be among world’s most dynamic markets by 2030
Vietnam is expected to be the fifth largest economy in Southeast Asia in 2030.
With an emerging market economy and continued strong growth, Vietnam is set to become one of the most dynamic markets in the world by 2030, according to Euromonitor International, a global market research company.
By 2030, the country’s urban consumer market is predicted to expand to 46 million consumers and US$169 billion worth of spending. GDP growth is expected to reach 91.4% in the 2019-2030 period and disposable income to US$9,740 per household by 2030.
In 2030, Vietnam is expected to be the fifth largest economy in Southeast Asia where 50% of the households will have an annual disposable income of US$5,000 to US$15,000.
Vietnam Venture Summit connects government with international venture funds
The Vietnam Venture Summit 2019 was held in Hanoi on June 10 as a platform for policy dialogue between the government and international venture funds.
The event, which was co-organised by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Golden Gate Ventures, saw the attendance of many big Vietnamese groups, such as FPT, Viettel, Vingroup, CMC and CenGroup.
The summit creates an opportunity to connect the Vietnamese Government with international investment funds to develop the country’s current start-up ecosystem.
Vietnam’s first social network on tourism launched

Hahalolo, the first social network on tourism developed by a Vietnamese startup, was officially launched in Ho Chi Minh City on June 10, based on a platform of integrating social networks, online tourism services, and e-commerce.
Working like popular social networks such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram, Hahalolo has all the basic functions that allow users to easily share posts, comments, photos, and videos of their travels as well as to communicate and interact with each other everywhere.
The tourism social network is at www.hahalolo.com and on the Hahalolo app. Initiated in 2014, the Hahalolo startup project began pilot operations last October by the Hahalolo Travel Social Network JSC.
Vietnam Bamboo Circus show performed in Sydney for first time
A O Lang Pho’, one of the most well-known Vietnamese bamboo circus shows, has wowed Australians at the Sydney Opera House, becoming the first Vietnamese art show be introduced at this iconic theatre.
Without the need for any spoken narrative, each story is told accompanied by impressive movements of acrobats and the skilful and creative use of bamboo as the main tools and props.
Performing six times from June 12 to 15, the show has left its audiences in awe by bringing them stories about the cultures of different regions in Vietnam. Unlike a traditional circus, in the Vietnamese Bamboo Circus shows, the vivid aspects of Vietnamese culture are woven together masterfully by a crew of theatre geniuses.

The men’s national football team have earned their highest rank in 20 years at 96th, according to the latest FIFA’s rankings announced on June 14.
With impressive results during the 2019 King's Cup in Thailand earlier this month, finishing second at the friendly tournament, Vietnam surpassed Jordan and Estonia to rank 96th in the world with 1,232 points, up two places compared to the previous rankings.
This is the highest place for Vietnamese football in the FIFA men’s rankings for the last two decades, given their highest rank ever was 84th in 1998.
Grandmaster Le Quang Liem claims maiden Asian individual title
Vietnamese Grandmaster Le Quang Liem triumphed in the standard chess category of the 2019 Asian Continental Chess Championship which concluded in China on June 15.
Liem, who has an Elo rating of 2,694, beat Sethuraman Panayappan of India (Elo 2,613) in the final match after 38 moves. The HCM City-born player had a total of seven points from nine matches, which proved enough for him to win the championship, which brought him a cash prize of US$ 11,000.
The convincing triumph helped Liem to become the first Vietnamese chess player to claim the Asian men’s individual crown.
