NA Chairwoman visits Thailand, attends 40th AIPA General Assembly
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and her entourage took on an official visit to Thailand from August 25-29 and attend the 40th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA 40) at the invitation of Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives and Chair of AIPA 40 Chuan Leekpai.
On the sidelines of AIPA 40, NA Chairwoman Ngan met with Speaker of Moroccan House of Representatives Habib El Malki and President of the Cambodian National Assembly Heng Samrin.
While in Thailand, Chairwoman Ngan held talks with Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives Chuan Leekpai, met Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Speaker of the Thai Senate Pornpetch Wichitcholchai.
She also visited Udon Thani province and met its Governor Watana Puttichat.
National ceremony marks 50 years implementing late President’s testament

A national ceremony was held in Hanoi on August 30 to mark the 50-year implementation of President Ho Chi Minh’s Testament (1969-2019) and the 50th death anniversary of the President.
Addressing the ceremony, Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong stressed that President Ho Chi Minh is an outstanding ideologist and a genius organiser, who founded, led and trained the Communist Party of Vietnam. He dedicated his whole life to the country and the people, setting a bright example of revolutionary ethics.
He highlighted the tremendous values and historical significance of the testament, and urged the Party to thoroughly master the teachings of the President, build on the Party’s fine traditions and nature, and resolutely fight all manifestations of degradation of political ideology, morality and lifestyle, as well as any signs of “self-evolution” and “self-transformation,” thus building a pure and strong party, enhancing the leadership and combat capacity of party organisations and party members.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on August 28 wrapped up his two-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
During his stay in Vietnam, PM Mahathir held talks with PM Phuc; and paid a courtesy visit to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong.
The Malaysian PM also visited FPT Group and held a dialogue with students of FPT University at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in Hanoi, and made a field trip to the Noi Bai Industrial Park.
The two sides issued a joint statement, under which they agreed to maintain frequent high-level contacts and increase discussions on strategic issues through the exchange of high-level visits, as well as regular exchanges among political parties, governmental and parliamentary delegations.
On the occasion, PMs Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Mahathir Mohamad witnessed the signing of a letter of intent on an MoU on cooperation in legal enforcement and search and rescue at sea, and the exchange of letters on the establishment of Malaysia-Vietnam friendship parliamentarians’ group.
Vietnam posts US$1.7 billion worth of trade surplus in August
Vietnam enjoyed a trade surplus of US$1.7 billion in August, raising the total trade surplus in the first eight months of this year to US$3.4 billion, the General Statistics Office announced on August 29.
The high trade surplus was attributed to the increase of exports of phones and components at US$33 billion in the eight-month period, accounting for 19.4% of Vietnam’s total export revenue.
Vietnam’s total export revenue was estimated at over US$336 billion in the first eight months of this year including nearly US$170 billion worth of export revenue, up 7.3% over the same period last year.
US$45 million-loan signed to improve Da Nang transport infrastructure

A loan agreement worth US$45 million will be used to upgrade transport infrastructure in Da Nang following a signing ceremony in Hanoi on August 28.
Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung and Director-General of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) Abdulhamid Alkhalifa signed the loan agreement worth US$45 million this morning to fund a project on improving the transport infrastructure of Da Nang.
The project has a total investment capital of US$61.37 including US$45 million loan from the OFID and US$16.37 million counterpart investment from the local budget of Da Nang.
Vietnam cultural festival in full swing in RoK
The 8th Vietnam cultural festival took place in Seoul, the Republic of Korea (RoK), on September 1, attracting thousands of Vietnamese expatriates, local residents, and foreign tourists.
The event is an annual activity hosted by the Association of Vietnamese in the RoK. This year, it featured performances by Vietnamese artists, Vietnamese folk games and food, and a fashion show.

The women with traditional costumes of Tay, Dao and Cao Lan ethnic groups, together with specialty products, agricultural products and cuisine of Tuyen Quang province are featuring at the walking street around Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi from August 31 to September 1, creating a cultural - culinary space that attracts many visitors during the weekend.
The event is an opportunity for Tuyen Quang province to introduce the image, land, people and unique traditional cultural values of ethnic groups of the province to the Hanoians, domestic and international visitors.
The event took place over three days, from August 30 to September 1, with many activities such as: displaying, introducing cuisine, specialty products, agricultural products, tourism of localities of Tuyen Quang province; performing cultural rituals and costumes of the Tay, Dao and Cao Lan ethnic groups; performing two models of Mid-Autumn lanterns.
Vietnam clinch AFF Women’s Championship trophy

Striker Huynh Nhu scored a late winner in extra time as Vietnam beat Thailand 1-0 in the final of the 2019 AFF Women’s Championship on August 27 to clinch the overall trophy in a dramatic fashion, denying the Thais a fourth title in a row.
Failing to get on the scoresheet during the 90 official minutes, both teams were forced to go into extra time to decide the game. In the 95th minute, all members of the Vietnamese team burst into joy as Huynh Nhu slotted it in from close range to put her side ahead 1-0.
The remainder of extra time saw Thailand push hard to equalise the score, but Vietnamese girls fought bravely to keep their advantage until the final whistle.
With the victory, Vietnam became the new champions of the AFF Women’s Championship. This is the third time in history the Vietnamese team have come out on top overall at the regional tournament, following their previous two triumphs in 2006 and 2012.
Vietnam’s squad leave for Group G opener under 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers

The Vietnamese national football team arrived in Thailand on the afternoon of September 1, preparing to kick-start their 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers second round campaign, with the opening match of Group G against hosts Thailand on September 5.
The 24-member team are stationed at the Novotel Bangkok Impact Hotel in Nonthaburi and have four days to get used to the weather and the pitch in Thailand. The 24-member squad will next be shortened to 23 players according to the regulations. The official 23-man list will be finalised at the technical meeting ahead of the match against Thailand, which takes place on September 4.
The opening match of Group G of the World Cup Asian Qualifiers second round will take place on Thammasat Stadium in Pathum Thani province bordering Bangkok on Thursday. The group consists of four Southeast Asian teams, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam, plus the favourites United Arab Emirates from Western Asia.
