Top leader celebrates founding anniversary of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics

Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong attended a ceremony held by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) to mark its 70th founding anniversary in Hanoi.

He asked the HCMA to step up the fight against wrong views and distorted allegations of hostile forces, thus helping to defend the Party, State, people and socialist regime, the leader said.

The leader also noted that the academy should focus on the quality of training while diversifying its training programmes and opening refresher courses for strategic officials.

National Assembly Standing Committee opens 37th meeting

The National Assembly Standing Committee (NASC) opened its 37th meeting, discussing 12 laws and preparing for the parliament’s upcoming plenary session.

The NASC members are also expressing their opinions on a resolution on the socio-economic development plan for ethnic, mountainous, remote and extremely disadvantaged regions for the 2021-2015 period, while deliberating on several important reports and making decisions on the re-organisation of a number of administrative units.

In addition, the committee will weigh up the need to introduce a resolution on managing and using funds collected from disinvestment in State-owned enterprises and will discuss a draft decree on customs procedures so as to implement ASEAN Protocol 7 on the customs transit system.

Nhan Dan Newspaper opens pavilion at L'Humanité Festival

Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper opened its pavilion at the annual L'Humanité Festival at La Courneuve Park in the outskirts of Paris, France.

In his opening remark, journalist Pham Song Ha, member of Nhan Dan Newspaper’s Editorial Board spoke highly of the annual festival as well as informed the guests on major celebrations in Vietnam in 2019.

Vietnam’s central bank cuts interest rates by 0.25 percentage points

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has decided to cut a range of policy interest rates by 0.25 percentage points with effect from September 16.

The annual refinancing rate will be cut from 6.25% to 6% while the rediscount rate will be lowered to 4% from the current 4.25%. The overnight lending rate will also go down from 7.25% to 7%.

A “Day of Vietnamese Culture” was held in Brno City in the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic.

The event was organised by the chapter of the Vietnamese Association in the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic with the support of authorities of Brno City, as part of activities in preparation for the 20th founding anniversary of the association in October 2019 and the 70th founding anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in February 2020.

Tuyen Quang City Festival opens

The 2019 “Le hoi Thanh Tuyen” (Tuyen Quang City Festival) and festival on performing national intangible cultural heritage was held in Tuyen Quang City.

The festival on performing national intangible cultural heritage featured the participation of more than 700 artisans, professional actors and the masses; performing 12 heritages.

At the Tuyen Quang City Festival, giant lantern designs were showcased in the parade, lighting up the northern mountainous city.

Nguyen Thien Ngan crowned world U14 rapid chess champion

Vietnamese player Nguyen Thien Ngan defeated No. 1 seed Van Foreest Machteld from the Netherlands to win the girls’ U14 rapid chess event at the 2019 World Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship in Spain.

After nine games of chess, Nguyen Thien Ngan (Elo 1,643) gained 7.5 points, passing both No. 1 seed Van Foreest Machteld (Elo 2,086) and No.3 seed Liya Kurmangaliyeva (Elo 1,804) from Kazakhstan.
