NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan visits Laos
National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and a Vietnamese NA high-level delegation paid a four-day visit to Laos from September 26-29.
During the visit, the NA leader had a meeting with General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President Bounnhang Vorachith and held talks with Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith. She also visited the province of Vientiane.
The Vietnamese Party, State and people will make all-out efforts to preserve and enhance the special relations with Laos, Chairwoman Ngan affirmed during a meeting with Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith on September 29.

The Party and State of Vietnam always treasures and preserves the fine and close relations with Belarus, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
While receiving Belarusian Deputy PM Igor Lyashenko in Hanoi on September 25, PM Phuc appreciated Belarusian leaders’ and people’s sentiments to Vietnam, especially their assistance to natural disaster-affected residents in the central region. He also spoke highly of the close coordination between the two nations at international organisations and forums, particularly at the United Nations.
For his part, Lyashenko said that trade relations between Vietnam and Belarus should be switched to the form of establishing industrial manufacturing joint ventures to serve both sides’ needs.
Vietnam’s nine-month GDP growth hits 9-year record high
Vietnam’s GDP expanded 6.98 percent in the January-September period, the highest nine-month growth rate in the past nine years, said General Director of the General Statistics Office (GSO) Nguyen Bich Lam on September 28.
The third-quarter GDP grew by 7.31 percent year-on-year, higher than the 6.82 percent of the first quarter and 6.73 percent of the second quarter, General Director of the GSO Lam told a press conference held in Hanoi by the GSO to announce the latest economic data.
The GSO leader said manufacturing and processing remained the main engine in driving the industry sector as well as the entire economy, growing at 11.37 percent.
Record numbers for newly established businesses during Jan-Sep

The number of newly established enterprises in the first nine months of 2019 reached a new record at nearly 102,300, according to the latest figure published by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam on September 28.
The average registered capital per enterprise also increased sharply, reaching VND12.6 billion (US$541,800), the highest level in recent years, forecasting better health for newly established enterprises.
For the nine-month period, the whole country had nearly 102,300 newly registered enterprises, with total registered capital of nearly VND1.3 quadrillion, up 5.9% in number and 34% in terms of the registered capital as compared to the same period in 2018. The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise was at VND12.6 billion, up 26.6%.
Viettel tops list of 50 most valuable brands again
The Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) has once again topped the list of 50 most valuable brands of Vietnam, as released by Brand Finance – a UK-based brand evaluation company, on September 24.
This is the second consecutive year that Viettel has ranked first in the list of 50 most valuable brands of Vietnam.
Viettel is also Vietnam’s only brand, with a total of eight others from Southeast Asia, in the list of the top 500 most valuable brands in the world as announced by Brand Finance.
Vietnamese film ‘Hai Phuong’ to complete at Oscar’s preliminary round

Vietnamese action movie “Hai Phuong”, also known as “Furie”, has been selected by the Vietnam Cinema Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the Vietnamese representative for the preliminary round of the Best International Film award at the Oscars 2020.
The Vietnam Cinema Department received an invitation from the academy in July and formed a board to choose a Vietnamese movie released between October 1, 2018, and September 30, 2019. Furie won the most votes from the selection board.
Furie, directed by Le Van Kiet, tells the story of a former gang leader in the Mekong Delta whose daughter is kidnapped. The fighting fit mother embarks on a journey to rescue her daughter.
Krong No volcanic cave system nominated as global geological park
The Krong No volcanic cave system, in the Central Highland province of Dak Nong, has been nominated by the Global Geoparks Network as a global geological park.
The nomination for the longest volcanic cave in Southeast Asia has been submitted to UNESCO. The result will be announced in April 2020.
The Dak Nong Geological Park, which has an area of around 2,000 square kilometres, is located accross six districts and towns: Krong No, Cu Jut, Dak Mil, Dak Song, Dak Glong and Gia Nghia. The Krong No volcanic cave system, which was discovered in 2007, is the highlight of the park. The Krong No volcanic cave system hides many secrets on its formation, including mineral complexes, biodiversity and archaeological relics.

Vietnam will open their AFC U23 Championship campaign in January next year in Group D, together with the DPR Korea, Jordan and UAE, following the draw for the competition held in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 26.
As the reigning runners-up, Vietnam aim for a place among the top two teams in the group to progress to the quarterfinals, but it will not be an easy task as all the 16 teams in the finals are among the best in Asia.
