Party Central Committee convenes 11th plenum
The 12th Party Central Committee convened its 11th plenary meeting in Hanoi from October 7-12, discussing and giving opinions on draft reports to be submitted to the 13th National Party Congress.
The Party Central Committee also debated a report on the socio-economic situation and state budget in 2019, the socio-economic development and state budget plan for 2020, and a number of other important issues.

A wide range of social, cultural and artistic activities were held across Hanoi to mark the 65th anniversary of the capital’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2019).
The event not only recalled the heroic moments of the army and people in the capital city 65 years ago but also contributed to educating patriotism among the younger generations.
Vietnam’s global competitiveness index jumps 10 positions
Vietnam climbed ten places in the 2019 global competitiveness index to rank 67th among 141 economies, according to a report released by the World Economic Forum.
Vietnam is the country whose score improved the most globally (+3.5), with its strong performance attributed to trade diversion due to global trade tensions, the report noted.
With a score of 84.8 (+1.3), Singapore is the world’s most competitive economy in 2019, overtaking the United States, which falls to second place.
Vietnam climbs five spots in UPU's integrated index for postal development

Vietnam ranks the 45th place among 172 countries and territories.
According to the latest rankings of the Universal Portal Union (UPU), Vietnam jumped five spots in the UPU's Integrated Index for Postal Development (2IPD) to rank 45th, with 51.79 points, among 172 countries and territories in the world.
Vietnam ranked fourth in Southeast Asia, after Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. Switzerland continues to top the rankings, followed by the Netherlands, Germany, Japan and France.
Vietnam ranks fourth in ASEAN in international arrivals in first half of 2019: PATA
Vietnam ranked fourth in Southeast Asia for the number of international arrivals in the first half of 2019, according to the Pacific Asia Travel Association’s (PATA) latest quarterly tourism monitor.
Vietnam was also listed among the top 10 destinations welcoming the largest number of arrivals in the Asia-Pacific region, together with the US, Hong Kong and Macau (China), Mexico and Thailand, among other countries.

Vietnam scored their first win in the second round of the 2022 World Cup Asian qualifiers, as edge past Malaysia 1-0 in their second Group G match at Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium on October 10.
Nguyen Quang Hai blasted a solitary goal with a clever volley from close range after teammate Que Ngoc Hai played a cross into the box in the 40th minute.
