Prime Minister attends Japanese emperor’s coronation ceremony

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the coronation ceremony of Japanese Emperor Naruhito in Tokyo on October 22 at the invitation of the Japanese Government.

Together with the heads of state and high-level leaders of over 190 countries, territories and international organisations, PM Phuc joined solemn rituals at the Imperial House of Japan. The Vietnamese leader also attended a banquet hosted by the Japanese Emperor and Empress.

While in Japan, the PM held bilateral meetings with PM of the Czech Republic Andrej Babis, President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev and President of Albania Ilir Meta, and received Governor of Kanagawa prefecture Yuji Kuroiwa, President and CEO of Nikkei Group Naotoshi Okada, and Chairman and CEO of SoftBank Masayoshi Son.

14th National Assembly convenes for eighth session

The 8th session of the 14th NA opened in Hanoi on October 21.

The 14th National Assembly (NA) opened its 8th session in Hanoi on the morning of October 21 in a ceremony which was broadcast live on national television and radio.

During the 28 working days, legislators are due to adopt several laws and consider reports on socio-economic performance and the State budget for 2019; plan for socio-economic development.

Two more officers to join UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan

The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department under the Defence Ministry presented the President’s decision to assign peacekeeping duty in South Sudan to two officers at a ceremony on October 24.

Under the decision, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Ngoc Son and Major Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong will serve as military observers at the UN Mission in South Sudan.

Vietnam’s score rises, ranked 70th in WB’s Doing Business 2020

Vietnam’s score increased to 69.8 points from 68.36 points from last year but the country moved down one place from the 69th to 70th out of 190 economies in the World Bank (WB) 2020 Ease of Doing Business ranking.

According to WB, Vietnam has made improvements in Getting credit and Paying taxes, helping to facilitate business activities. Almost all sectors have seen improvements compared to the previous year. The highest ranking is Dealing with construction permits (ranked 25th) and the lowest ranking is Resolving insolvency (ranked 122nd). In the Southeast Asia region, Vietnam’s ranking is lower than Singapore (2nd), Malaysia (12th), Thailand (21st) and Brunei (66th).

Vietnamese scholars awarded French accolade

Ngo Tu Lap, Director of the International Francophone Institute and Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Van Minh, Senior Lecturer at Hanoi National University, were awarded the title of “Knight of Arts and Letters” and “The Order of Academic Palms” by the French Government at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 23.

The “Knight of Arts and Letters” title was established in 1957 by the French minister of culture, and its national merit status was confirmed by French President Charles de Gaulle in 1963. The title is bestowed upon people in recognition of their outstanding achievements or great contributions to the art and literature of France and the world.

Vietnam’s Kieu Loan named among Miss Grand Int’l 2019 top ten

Vietnam representative - Kieu Loan excelled among other strong candidates to win a place in the top 10 of Miss Grand International 2019 after the coronation night wrapped up in the early morning of October 26 (Vietnam time).

The final of the Miss Grand International 2019 took place in Caracas, Venezuela with the participation of 60 contestants from 60 countries and territories. Kieu Loan, 19, is from Da Nang city and was the first runner-up at Miss World Vietnam 2019. She took part in a range of activities during the Miss Grand International 2019 pageant, leaving a positive impression on both judges and viewers in the process.

FIFA World Rankings: Vietnam back to world’s No. 97, among top 15 in Asia

The national senior squad climbed up two places to return to the 97th position in the latest FIFA Men's Rankings as announced on October 24.

Coach Park Hang-seo’s side have also returned to the top 15 strongest teams in Asia, thanks to the two consecutive victories against Malaysia and Indonesia in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers this month.
