Eighth session of 14th-tenure National Assembly closes

The eighth session of the 14th National Assembly wrapped up in Hanoi on November 27 after 28 days of sitting.

In her closing remarks, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that the NA completed the set agenda for the 28 days, with 11 laws and codes, and 17 resolutions approved, along with 10 draft laws scrutinised. The number reflects the efforts and responsibility of NA agencies, the Government and relevant organisations in the preparation work, as well as consensus of deputies, she stressed.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived back in Hanoi late on November 28, ending his trip to the Republic of Korea (RoK) for the ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit, the first Mekong-RoK Summit, and an official visit to the RoK at the invitation of President Moon Jae-in.

During the trip, the PM and his entourage engaged in a wide range of bilateral and multilateral activities, reaping practical outcomes. In particular, the PM’s official visit to the RoK set a new milestone in the Vietnam-RoK relationship with the signing of several cooperative deals, valued at billions of VND, pushing the bilateral strategic partnership forward in a result-oriented, effective and comprehensive manner.

Vietnamese students win high prizes at international invention show

Vietnamese students brought home two gold and one silver medals and two special prizes at the International Invention Show (INOVA) 2019, which recently took place in Croatia, as announced by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

The Vietnamese delegation was comprised of high school students from Hanoi and Quang Ninh Province. Notably, the “Process of making biodegradable food wrapping film” project of the 12th graders of the Kim Anh High School in Hanoi’s Soc Son District was honoured with a trophy and a medal awarded by the Romanian Inventors Forum.

Film on traditional theatre genre of ‘cai luong’ wins Golden Lotus Award

‘Song Lang’ (The Tap Box), a film highlighting the traditional theatre genre of ‘cai luong’ (reformed opera), was honoured with the Golden Lotus Award in the motion picture category at the 21st National Film Festival, which wrapped up in Vung Tau City on November 27.

At the closing ceremony, the organising board presented Golden Lotus, Silver Lotus and Jury Awards to the outstanding films in each category. Awards to honour prominent individuals, including the Best Scriptwriter, Best Cameraman, Best Leading Actor and Actress, and Best Sound Editing, were also delivered on the occasion.

Vietnamese writers win SEA Write Award

Three Vietnamese writers, namely Nguyen The Quang, Tran Hung and Le Minh Khue, have received the SEA Write Award, or Southeast Asian Writers Award, in Bangkok, Thailand.

The three Vietnamese writers were among the total of 27 winners of the SEA Write Award from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) over the past three years of 2016; 2017 and 2018. They were present at the award ceremony held on November 25 at the Royal Ballroom at the Mandarin Oriental. The ceremony was held to honour Southeast Asian writers – past, present and future.

Vietnam's tourism sector witnesses new record growth

Vietnam’s tourism sector witnessed a new record growth rate in November, with the number of foreign visitors reaching over 1.8 million.

Accordingly, Vietnam welcomed a total of nearly 16.3 million international tourists in the first 11 months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 15.4%. In November alone, visitors arriving by air increased the highest with 13% and those arriving by land rose 8.6%; meanwhile arrivals by sea dropped sharply by 19.2% due to the impact of Typhoon No. 6 landing in the South Central provinces.

Vietnam named World’s Leading Heritage Destination 2019

Vietnam has been honoured with “the World’s Leading Heritage Destination 2019” by the 26th World Travel Awards (WTA) at a recently held awards ceremony in Oman, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

Launched in 1993, the WTA have become one of the quality measures of the tourism industry and are considered as the Oscars of tourism by The Wall Street Journal. It acknowledges, rewards and celebrates excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourist and hospitality industries.

SEA Games 2019 officially open in the Philippines

The 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games officially kicked off with a glittering opening ceremony at the 55,000-seat Philippines Arena, the world’s largest indoor stadium, in Bulacan, the Philippines, on November 30.

Vietnam has sent an 856-member delegation to the 30th SEA Games, including 568 athletes in 43 sports, targeting to bring home at least 65 gold medals and make the top three on the overall medal table.
