Vietnam peacekeeping force honoured

The level-two field hospital No.1 of the Vietnam People’s Army was honoured at a ceremony at Military Hospital 175 in Ho Chi Minh City on December 5, following the completion of its peacekeeping mission at the UN mission in South Sudan.

At the ceremony, the Defence Ministry announced the President’s decision to award the Fatherland Defence Order to the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, to the department’s director, Major General Hoang Kim Phung, and to level-two field hospital No.1.

The Military Hospital 175 and Director of the level-two field hospital No.1 Bui Duc Thanh were presented with the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit.

Asia-Pacific regional conference on early childhood opens in Hanoi

The ninth Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Early Childhood, the first of its kind to be held in Vietnam, kicked off in Hanoi on December 4.

Themed “Working across sectors to promote nurturing and sustainable environments for young children”, the three-day event was co-organised by the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood, with over 500 delegates from 35 countries and territories taking part.

Delegates at the three-day conference shared experience in multi-sectoral models and programmes to mitigate the impact of toxic environments on children, to promote a nurturing environment for them and to increase multi-sectoral partnership in the field.

Online Friday 2019 kicks off in Hanoi

The Vietnam E-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency kicked off Online Friday 2019 and the Digital and E-Commerce Experience Week in Hanoi on December 5.

This year, Online Friday brought together many e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Tiki, Sendo, Voso and Sanhangre; manufacturers such as Oppo and Habeco; along with other distributors.

Some 50,000 items ranging from essential items for New Year festival, household appliances, and cosmetics to fashion items, technology products and airline tickets were on sale, with over 1,000 brands offering discounted prices with up to 70% off.

Online Friday 2019 and Digital and E-Commerce Experience Week took place simultaneously between three big cities, including the pedestrian space around Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi, Bach Dang night market in Da Nang, and Nguyen Hue walking street in Ho Chi Minh City.

National start-up festival Techfest 2019 takes place in Ha Long

The national start-up and innovation festival, known as Techfest 2019, opened on December 4 in Ha Long, the capital city of Quang Ninh Province.

Themed 'Vietnam: Globalise', Techfest 2019 aimed to attract resources, manpower, technology and finance to support Vietnamese start-ups and become a platform to connect Vietnamese start-up ecosystem with that of the world at large. It brought together the participation of about 600 delegates.

A series of seminars were organised by 12 technology villages during the three-day event, attracting 250 foreign investors and experts, and nearly 300 start-ups.

World Press Photo Exhibition 2019 opens in Hanoi

The 2019 World Press Photo Exhibition, organised by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam, opened in Hanoi on December 6 presenting stories with different perspectives through the more than 100 photos on display.

With the photos being exhibited on the side of Hoan Kiem Lake, local people and visitors could easily access, admire and explore the meaningful stories from around the world, which are captured in the photos of talented photographers.

The exhibition also showed how willing Hanoi is to connect with other cities in the region and around the world.

Vietnam edge past Thailand to defend SEA Games women’s football title

Vietnamese players celebrate after beating Thailand to win the SEA Games women's football gold medal.

Pham Hai Yen scored an extra-time goal as Vietnam edged past Thailand 1-0 in the final match on December 8 to successfully defend their SEA Games women’s football gold medal.

Despite concerted efforts from both sides, the match ended up goalless after the official 90 minutes of play. Hai Yen got on the scoresheet early in extra time to lift Mai Duc Chung’s side to the overall crown.

With the narrow victory, Vietnam successfully defended their SEA Games title, thus continuing to solidify their women’s football reign in Southeast Asia.

Hanoi and Nha Trang among best cities for honeymoon in Asia

Hanoi and the beach town of Nha Trang have been listed among the best 10 cities to go for a honeymoon in Asia by The Travel, a leading travel site of Canada.

Vietnam’s capital ranked second while Nha Trang in central Khanh Hoa Province rounded off the top 10 list, as released by the site last month.

The Travel describes Hanoi as a "great place for a romantic trip, experiencing Vietnamese culture, learning about local history, and savouring delicious food." Meanwhile, Nha Trang is described as an ideal destination for newlyweds with "enthralling beaches, ancient temples, and remnants of the ancient Champa Kingdom."

Nguyen Tran Khanh Van crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2019

Nguyen Tran Khanh Van was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 on the final night of the pageant which concluded in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, on December 7.

Born in 1995, this beauty comes from Ho Chi Minh City. She overcame 44 other contestants across the country to secure the crown. With measurements of 83-60-90, she stands at 175 centimetres tall.

This is the fourth edition of Miss Universe Vietnam since it was first held in 2008. The semi-final and final rounds of the contest have all been held in Nha Trang, the capital city of Khanh Hoa Province.
