Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong has expressed his best wishes to all Vietnamese people, both throughout the country and abroad, at the beginning of the Lunar New Year 2020.

In his New Year’s message, the Party leader wished every Vietnamese family and person a new year of good health, joy, happiness and success, while extending wishes of peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development to international friends and people of foreign countries all over the world.

Lan Ha becomes a member of the World’s Most Beautiful Bays

According to Hai Phong Portal, Vietnam’s beautiful Lan Ha Bay located in the northern port city of Hai Phong has been officially made a member of the World’s Most Beautiful Bays Club (MBBW).

In a letter recently sent to the City People’s Committee, the Chairman of MBBW read, that their board of directors have approved the appraisal report and received a 100% vote to nominate Lan Ha Bay. Linking Ha Long Bay of Quang Ninh province with Cat Ba archipelago, Lan Ha Bay is like a silk ribbon made from green mountains, blue seas and diverse fauna and flora. It is a tranquil, curved body of water featuring roughly 400 unique islands.

Deputy PM active at 50th meeting of WEF in Davos

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh led a Vietnamese delegation to participate in many activities within the framework of the 50th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on January 21.

The Deputy PM was a keynote speaker at the plenary session on strategic prospects for the ASEAN, attended other important sessions of the meeting and met with leaders from many countries, international organisations and global leading groups, including President of the WEF Borge Brende, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, President of the European Parliament David Sassoli, and President of the Swiss National Council Isabelle Moret.

PM directs preventive measures against corona virus

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issued Notice No.121/CD-TTg on intensifying prevention measures against the acute respiratory illness caused by a new strain of corona virus.

The PM required the Health Ministry to closely check passengers coming in at border gates on roads, waterway and airway. Those who are suspected of being infected must be isolated immediately.

He also asked ministries to popularise information and warnings to Vietnamese citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to affected areas.

Resolution seeking EP’s ratification of EVFTA, EVIPA approved

The European Parliament Committee on International Trade on January 21 approved a resolution asking for the European Parliament’s ratification of the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

Approval votes for the two agreements are the highest compared to the voting of several recent FTAs between EU and partners, proving EU parliamentarians and member states’ appreciation for Vietnam’s role and position in the world, as well as the comprehensive cooperative partnership between Vietnam and the EU.

Quang Hai and Van Hau make final Vietnam Golden Ball shortlist

Hanoi FC midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai is emerging as the odds-one favourite for the 2019 Vietnam Golden Ball (Men) award.

Nguyen Quang Hai and Doan Van Hau (both of V.League champions Hanoi FC) have been named within the final five-man shortlist for the 2019 Vietnam Golden Ball men’s award, as recently announced by the organising committee.

The three other competitors for the title are Nguyen Van Quyet (Hanoi FC), Nguyen Trong Hoang (Viettel FC) and Do Hung Dung (Hanoi FC). Midfielder Quang Hai is emerging as the odds-one favourite for the Men’s Golden Ball award following a successful year at both the national team and club levels. He finished fourth at the 2019 Asian Cup with the national squad and held the captaincy of the Vietnam U22 squad that won the 30th SEA Games gold medal, while also clinching the V.League and National Cup trophies with Hanoi FC.
