Japanese Prime Minister pays official visit to Vietnam
Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide and his spouse paid an official visit to Vietnam from October 18-20 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse.
Both sides expressed their satisfaction about the strong and comprehensive development of Vietnam - Japan relations, with high political trust as well as mutual support and enhanced international collaboration in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. They agreed on orientations and measures that help deepen the Vietnam - Japan extensive strategic partnership.
On the occasion, the two PMs witnessed the exchange of 12 cooperative documents worth around nearly US$4 billion signed between ministries, sectors, localities and enterprises of the two nations.

The NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan presented an opening speech at the opening session, which was broadcast live on Radio The Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television and the National Assembly TV channel.
The NA heard several important reports, including one delivered by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the implementation of the socio-economic development plans for 2020 and 2016-2020, the plan for 2021, and main targets and solutions for socio-economic development during 2021-2025.
Three more Vietnamese officers to join UN peacekeeping missions
The Ministry of Defence held a ceremony on October 22 to assign three officers to join the UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and the Central African Republic.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ba Hung and Lieutenant Colonel Ly Thanh Tam will work as military observers in South Sudan, while Major Dao Duy Tung will be an information analysis advisory officer in the Central African Republic.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Kim Phung, head of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, said the officers are highly qualified and rich in management and command experience. They have been fully trained to meet the professional demands of UN peacekeeping missions.
EU - Vietnam Business Council makes debut

The EU - Vietnam Business Council (EVBC) was officially launched by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on October 22, aimed at supporting businesses on both sides.
Speaking at the signing ceremony for the founding of EVBC held in Hanoi, Hoang Quang Phong, Vice President of VCCI, said that the council was born to promote the development of enterprises of both sides, on the basis of fully exploiting the opportunities provided by the EU - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
Co-Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham), Nicolas Audier, emphasised that the establishment of the council demonstrates the high unity and desire of the concerned parties, for the cooperation and promotion of trade and investment activities.
Vietnam co-organises ITU Virtual Digital World 2020
The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialised agency for ICTs have co-organised the ITU Virtual Digital World 2020.
Themed "Building the digital world. Together", the three-day online event brings together more than 50 ITU member countries.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam reiterated the Vietnamese government’s commitments to supporting and coordinating with the ITU and its member countries in building a digital world, for peace, cooperation and prosperity.
Central provinces severely hit by flooding

According to the national disaster management agency, rain and floods over the past few weeks have killed 119 people and left 21 missing.
Flooding also submerged over 317,000 houses across five provinces, Quang Binh province being the hardest hit province with nearly 110,000 homes under the water.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that it is necessary to enhance community awareness, improve forecasting capacity and mobilise the support of all in society for disaster relief. The PM asked provincial authorities to quickly help local residents return to normal life and take action to ensure their livelihoods.
Vietnam maintains 94th position on October’s FIFA rankings
The Vietnamese men’s football squad has remained in 94th position in the latest FIFA rankings announced on October 22.
Vietnam also ranks 14th in Asia and first in Southeast Asia, above Thailand, which climbed one notch to number 113.
The top three positions are occupied by Belgium, France and Brazil while in Asia, Japan ranks number one, followed by Iran and the Republic of Korea.
