National COVID-19 vaccine fund launched
Vietnam’s national COVID-19 vaccine fund was launched at a ceremony in Hanoi on the evening of June 5 in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The fund was established to mobilise social resources for the purchase and import of vaccines as well as for the research, development and production of domestic vaccines.
The Party and State set the goal to administer free vaccines to all people to soon achieve herd immunity, considering it as a fundamental, long-term, strategic and decisive solution to get rid of the pandemic.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and proposed six important solutions during the high-level discussion held on May 31, within the framework of the second Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit.
The Vietnamese Government leader stressed that striking a balance between the urgent need for economic recovery and the demand for greener and more sustainable growth in the post-COVID era is both an objective and a pressing requirement in the development of all nations.
He said the world is now witnessing the compounding effects at an unprecedented scale and scope arising from three major catastrophes, namely the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and natural resources depletion, not to mention the ageing population in many countries. These challenges have left dire and multidimensional consequences, not only for today but also for future generations.
Activities nationwide mark President Ho Chi Minh’s departure to seek path to national liberation
A wide variety of cultural and arts activities were held nationwide to mark the 110th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s departure to seek a path to liberate the nation (June 5, 1911-2021).
An art programme entitled ‘Nguoi La Niem Tin Tat Thang’ (Uncle Ho – Our Belief in Victory) was staged on the evening of June 4.
In addition, various exhibitions were held featuring many documents, photos, posters and artefacts that highlight President Ho Chi Minh’s life and revolutionary career, his contributions to the struggle for national liberation and the Vietnamese people’s sentiments to the beloved leader.
National Press Awards 2020 to honour 112 works

Up to 112 works will be honoured at the awards ceremony of the National Press Awards 2020, the judging board announced.
There will be nine A prizes, 25 B prizes, 45 C prizes, and 32 consolation prizes.
Notably, according to Thuan Huu, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) and Chairman of the National Press Awards Council, a special prize will be awarded for the first time ever.
This is also the first edition of the contest to see the participation of all 63 journalist associations around the country.
Vietnam’s fresh lychees enter Japan’s Kagoshima
Vietnam’s fresh lychees have been sold at supermarkets in Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan for the first time, as part of a “Vietnam’s goods” week in the Kagoshima AEON Mall from June 4 to June 6.
The information, along with images of Vietnamese lychees at AEON, was shared by Kagoshima Governor Koichi Shiota and Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam during their online working session on June 4.
President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to be closed for maintenance

The Mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh will be closed to the public from June 11 to August 11.
The Mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh and the Monument to War Heroes and Martyrs in Hanoi will be closed to the public from June 11 to August 11 for periodic maintenance this year.
Respect-paying activities for President Ho Chi Minh and war heroes will resume on August 12, announced the mausoleum management board.
Pre-World Cup qualifiers: Vietnam-Jordan friendly match ends in 1-1 draw
Vietnam played out a 1-1 draw with Jordan in a friendly match at Khalid Bin Mohammed Stadium in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on May 31, which was the only friendly for Park Hang-seo’s side before the team resumes their campaign in the second round of the 2022 World Cup Asian qualifiers.
Vietnam are currently leading Group G with 11 points from three wins and two draws, two clear of second-placed Malaysia and three above Thailand. The UAE are now in fourth with six points from four games, while Indonesia are standing at bottom with zero points.
The remaining three matchdays of Group G will see Vietnam play Indonesia, Malaysia and the UAE on June 7, 11 and 15, respectively.
