NDO/VNA - Cambodia will strengthen ASEAN’s central role so as to maintain peace, security and prosperity as Chair of ASEAN for 2022, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn said on December 29.

Speaking at a press conference on Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship Priorities 2022, he said that Cambodia will consolidate multilateralism and multilateral processes via ASEAN-led mechanisms.

Cooperative actions will be maintained in an open, transparent, inclusive and rules-based manner, he added.

Cambodia will also promote trust, respect, attention and mutual understanding in keeping with principles and goals set in the United Nations Charter, ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and more.

ASEAN’s central role will be enhanced in the face of increasing anti-globalisation movement, unilateralism and protectionism, along with ASEAN Way and unity in diversity, Sokhonn affirmed.

He added that Cambodia will exert efforts to bolster ASEAN’s cooperation with partners in a bid to maintain peace and stability in the region, as well as boost the building of the ASEAN Community.
