Asian countries from Australia to Japan and the Philippines announced tighter COVID-19 restrictions on Friday, as they battle worsening coronavirus outbreaks, driven by the more contagious Delta variant.

* China's National Immigration Administration (NIA) has vowed to further beef up efforts against COVID-19 importation and firmly prevent coronavirus transmission through entry and exit channels.

* Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Friday called on the citizens to watch the Olympics at home at a news conference announcing the expansion of coronavirus restrictions in several areas as Delta virus drives infection numbers to record highs.
