Vietnam and Russia prioritize cooperation in epidemic prevention and control

Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich has affirmed that joining hands to fight the pandemic is a priority in the relationship between Russia and Vietnam, in an interview with a reporter from Nhan Dan Newspaper.

In the context of the complicated and unpredictable situation regarding the Covid-19 epidemic in Vietnam and around the world due to the raging Delta variant, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich highly lauded the timeliness and urgency of the call of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, delivered to Vietnamese people at home and overseas, to step up COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.

Expressing his appreciation for Vietnam's efforts in epidemic prevention and control, the Ambassador affirmed that the common task of everyone, whether Vietnamese citizens or foreign nationals living in Vietnam, is to ensure strict compliance with all sanitary and epidemiological requirements in order to fight against epidemics, contributing to protecting the health of their families, relatives, friends and colleagues. The Ambassador said that this is an effective way to respond to the pandemic in the current context.

Talking about the the epidemic response measures the Embassy of the Russia in Vietnam has implemented amid the complicated epidemic situation, Ambassador Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich emphasised that all officers and employees of the Embassy operate strictly under the guidelines of the competent authorities and local authorities on mandatory distancing and self-isolation for new employees just arrived. “We hope that, through joint efforts, we can defeat this dangerous infectious disease and we will return to normal life in the near future” said the Ambassador.

As a "bright spot" in the relationship between Vietnam and Russia, medical cooperation has been further promoted during the time of the epidemic. Accordingly, the two countries constantly promote their spirit of solidarity, mutual affection, and join hands to cope with the pandemic. During Russia's struggles with the Covid-19 epidemic in 2020, Vietnam gave Russia practical and timely support. The Ambassador shared that Vietnam has already given Russia disinfectants, masks, protective clothing and medical equipment.

Over the past time, Vietnam's Vabiotech Company has made efforts to cooperate with Russia and proceed to process Russia's Covid-19 vaccine in Vietnam. Ambassador Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich also expressed his hope that Russia will soon set up a production facility for the Sputnik V vaccine in Vietnam; At the same time, the competent agencies of the two countries maintain cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Covid-19.

Online conferences are being held to discuss the prevention and control of Covid-19 and other dangerous infectious diseases. The Vietnam – Russia Combined Tropical Science and Technology Research Centre is conducting surveys on epidemic prevention and control measures.
Emphasising that the fight against Covid-19 is a priority area of cooperation between the two countries, the Ambassador affirmed that Russia is ready to deepen cooperation with Vietnam in the field of health, on the basis of the Russia-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, for the benefit of the two peoples.
