Laos sees increase in new COVID-19 cases

Laos recorded 648 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said on October 24.

Of the new infections, 635 cases were detected in the community in 11 cities and provinces.

The country has to date logged 35,633 COVID-19 cases, including 52 deaths.

The government has urged localities to continue strictly implementing issued preventive measures, while focusing on vaccinations for the groups as planned.

Besides, transport activities in Vientiane capital and provinces reporting community cases will be temporarily halted in the period from 10pm to 5am each night, except vehicles transporting commodities, foods, medical equipment, those with patients, fire-fighting trucks, and others with permission.

The Ministry of Health continues calling on local people to immediately contact local health facilities once having symptoms of COVID-19 infection for timely testing and treatment to reduce the risk of transmission.
