Earlier at a joint press conference following the talks with his Russian counterpart in Sochi, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasised that the talks between China and the US have progressed, but there have been disagreements that should be discussed carefully.
* US President Donald Trump sounded optimistic about prospects for resolving trade disputes between the US and China. Speaking at the White House on May 13, President Trump said he had a feeling the talks are going to be very successful and the US will announce the results in three to four weeks. The US President said he would meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at a G20 summit in Japan in late June.
* Meanwhile, the US Commerce Department said on May 13 that it banned six Chinese technology companies and organisations from exporting US technologies and other goods. The escalation followed China’s announcement to increase tariffs on US goods from June 1. According to a document disclosed to the media, the US plans to hold a public hearing on June 17 on President Trump's proposal to put tariffs on Chinese goods worth US$300 billion.
