The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Roberto Azevedo said Thursday (June 20) there are hopes from WTO members that trade tensions will be alleviated at the G20 summit in Japan next week.

* Myanmar is planning to install vessel monitoring system on all offshore fishing vessels in order to control illegal fishing in the country's territorial waters, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation on Friday (June 21).

* Russians will see results of the country's national projects, which are designed to modernize the national economy and raise living standards, as early as this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

* US President Donald Trump on Thursday described the shootdown of a US drone as a "big mistake" by Iran. The US military said Thursday that an RQ-4A Global Hawk unmanned aircraft was shot down by an Iranian air defense system while operating in international airspace on June 19. Iran, however, claimed the drone downed in the southern part of the country had crossed Iranian borders.

* Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Thursday that Iran has recovered debris of the downed US drone in the country's southern waters, Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) reported.

* The European Union (EU) now has "a new Strategic Agenda for the EU setting the priorities and direction for 2019-2024," Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, said Thursday on his twitter account.

* The Saudi-led coalition said a drone launched by Yemeni Houthi rebels toward the Saudi border city of Jizan was intercepted and destroyed on Thursday, Saudi Press Agency reported.

* The UK government provided a record GBP6.8 billion (US$8.62 billion) in support for companies to export overseas in 2018 to 2019 as the country prepares for post-Brexit trade, the UK Export Finance (UKEF) revealed in a report on Thursday.

* Mexico welcomes asylum seekers but rejects becoming a transit corridor for migrants headed north, Interior Minister Olga Sanchez Cordero said on Thursday.

* Ireland will introduce a five-year multi-entry visa option for Chinese visitors starting from July 1, 2019, said a senior Irish official in Dublin on Thursday.

* Slovak President Zuzana Caputova arrived for her first official visit to the Czech Republic on Thursday, meeting with Czech President Milos Zeman and heads of both houses of the Czech parliament. The two presidents discussed bilateral relations, agreeing to open a Czech House in Bratislava by the end of this year.

* Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi met on Thursday with President of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) Nabil Baffoun for the preparations of the new elections.

* The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jordan on Thursday kicked off a joint military exercise in the UAE's capital Abu Dhabi, the official WAM news agency reported.
