Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday (August 25) expressed Iran's resolution to settle problems with the United States through diplomatic means. Zarif made the remarks via Twitter following his surprise visit to the French seaside town of Biarritz on Sunday where the 45th Group of Seven (G7) summit is underway.

* Palestine slammed on Sunday the United States for deleting the name of Palestine from its list of countries and states. Earlier in the day, Israel Radio reported that the US State Department deleted any reference to the Palestinian territories or the Palestinian Authority on its official website.

* Russia's Baltic Fleet has simulated firing Iskander tactical missiles during recent drills, TASS news agency reported on Sunday. Covered by Mi-24 attack helicopters and Su-30SM multirole fighters, the missile troops practiced loading launchers and conducting "electronic launches," TASS said, citing the press office of the fleet.

* More than 8,000 troops from 30 countries are taking part in the ninth edition of the US-Jordan military exercise Eager Lion in the eastern desert of Jordan. The exercise, which will run through Sept. 5, involved the participation of several countries from across the world, Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Thalji of Jordan Armed Forces, said in a statement.

* The United States and Japan agreed in principle on Sunday to core elements of a trade deal that US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said they hoped to sign in New York next month.

* Brazilian warplanes are dumping water on the burning forest in the Amazon state of Rondonia, responding to a global outcry over the destruction of the world's largest tropical rainforest, according to a government video.
