Japan’s NHK television channel broadcasted a programme on May 23 praising Vietnam’s effective containment of COVID-19 with 324 infections and zero deaths.
The channel attributed the success to the Vietnamese Government’s strict and drastic quarantine measures.
NHK also quoted Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in an interview on May 21 as saying that Vietnam is willing to sacrifice its short-term economic benefits to protect the people's health and lives.
The PM added that quickly controlling the pandemic creates a premise for international investors and tourists to return to Vietnam. He also pledged to create a favourable investment environment for foreign investors to pour more capital into the country.
* Meanwhile, Prof. Futoshi Hasebe from the Nagasaki University’s Institute of Tropical Medicine appreciated Vietnam's drastic measures in prevention and control of COVID-19 right before its outbreak in the country, thus helping to curb its spread in the community.
He added that drastic quarantine measures and early testing of suspected cases have resulted in Vietnam’s success in the fight against the pandemic.
* Business news website of the Nihon Keizai (Japan) published an article by the chief market economist Ueno Yasunari of Mizuho Financial Group that highly praised the effectiveness of Vietnam’s COVID-19 fighting measures.
Yasunari was surprised to find that Vietnam has a population of around 96 million people but the number of COVID-19 infections stopped at just over 300 and there were no deaths. This shows that Vietnam's anti-epidemic measures are highly effective.
* The Strait Times (Singapore) has published an article by journalist Tan Hui Yee, the Straits Times' Indochina Bureau chief, positively evaluated the COVID-19 prevention and control activities in Vietnam.
The article emphasised that Vietnam is reaping the strategic achievements from responding quickly after not detecting any COVID-19 infected people in the community for more than a month. The newspaper stated that schools are reopening, buses are operating normally and people seem to be returning to their daily life, while investors' interest has increased again.
* The website nzherald.co.nz has run an article by an expert from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute on the factors that help Vietnam achieve impressive results in the fight against the pandemic.
The article stated that Vietnam's success is due to a combination of factors, such as clear and timely communication from the government, while it’s warning has publicised the dangers of COVID-19 and the lack of large-scale health resources if a major outbreak occurs in a frank manner.
* Matthew Moore, an official at the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has highly appreciated the measures that Vietnam has undertaken to cope with COVID-19.
He commented that Vietnam has been very successful in consistently implementing these measures, adding that Vietnamese people have great faith in their government.
* ASEAN has coped with COVID-19 quite well with Vietnam serving as the ASEAN Chair 2020, heard a recent online seminar held by the Centre for International Law under the National University of Singapore.
Scholars and officials shared the view that apart from the pandemic combat, the grouping has made outstanding performance in balancing relations with its major partners.
Leading Singaporean scholars at the event also lauded Vietnam’s achievements in pandemic combat, saying that the country had done a good job of combating COVID-19 both as an independent nation and as the rotating chair of ASEAN.
