* British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Saturday said scientific advances can be used to battle climate change, a challenge which he described as being "far worse, far more destructive than coronavirus".
* More than 70.52 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,598,967 have died, according to a Reuters tally. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
* The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Saturday reported 15,718,811 cases of the new coronavirus, an increase of 244,011 from its previous count, and said that the number of deaths had risen by 3,013 to 294,535.
* India's COVID-19 tally reached 9,857,029 on Sunday as 30,254 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry. According to the data, the death toll mounted to 143,019 as 391 COVID-19 patients died since Saturday morning.
* Republic of Korea reported 1,030 more daily cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Saturday, raising the total number of infections to 42,766. It was the highest daily caseload since the first confirmed case was reported here on Jan. 20, topping 1,000 for the first time.
* Mexico reported on Saturday 12,057 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the national total to 1,241,436, according to its health ministry. Meanwhile, the country's death toll from the virus increased by 685 to 113,704. Mexico ranks fourth among Latin American countries in terms of documented COVID-19 cases, following Brazil, Argentina and Colombia. The country has the world's fourth highest COVID-19 death toll, after the United States, Brazil and India.
* Brazil's COVID-19 death toll rose to 181,123 on Saturday after 686 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the Brazilian Ministry of Health said. According to the ministry, tests also detected 43,900 new cases in the past day, raising the national count to 6,880,127.
* The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines on Sunday reported 1,085 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the total number in the country to 449,400. The DOH said 9,269 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 418,687. The death toll climbed to 8,733 after three more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added.
* Argentina on Saturday reported 5,274 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its national tally to 1,494,602, said the Ministry of Health. The ministry also said that 62 more patients have died of the disease, raising the nationwide death toll to 40,668.
* Germany reported on Sunday 20,200 more COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 1,320,716, according to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The country's new COVID-19 deaths in the same period totaled 321, taking nationwide death toll to 21,787, the data showed.
* France recorded 13,947 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the nationwide tally to 2,365,319, according to data published on a government website. The country also confirmed 194 new fatalities from the virus over the past day, taking the national death toll to 57,761, said the health ministry.
* Italy reported on Saturday 19,903 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its tally to 1,825,775, according to the country's health authorities. The health ministry also confirmed 649 new fatalities from the virus over the past day, taking the national death toll to 64,036.
* Canada has confirmed a total of 453,257 COVID-19 cases and 13,337 deaths as of Saturday afternoon, according to the Canadian television network CTV. The Public Health Agency of Canada said on Saturday that the country's daily average over the past seven days has reached 6,543.
* British Royal Navy boats are being prepared to patrol Britain's fishing waters as Sunday's deadline for Brexit trade negotiations between Britain and the European Union (EU) draws near, British media reported Saturday.
* The two-month strike in Israel's public colleges has come to an end, the state's Ministry of Finance and Council for Higher Education said in a joint statement on Saturday. The strike broke out in mid-October in 11 of Israel's 22 public colleges, involving about 30,000 students.
