The deal between Tokyo and Washington for Japan to host US forces, which was due to expire this fiscal year at the end of March, is agreed every five years.
Japan's share of the cost will be JPY201.7 billion (US$1.83 billion) in the year starting next April, with the amount roughly the same as the previous year.
Both sides agreed in February to provisionally keep Japan's share of the hosting costs at around JPY200 billion to finance around 55,000 US military personnel who are stationed at bases in Japan.
Japan, in negotiations over the costs, was keen to keep the amount the same as the previous year due to its economic and fiscal predicament.
In the latest deal, Japan will cover the costs of 23,000 base workers' wages which adds up to about US$1.4 billion. Utility costs to be shouldered by Japan, meanwhile, will cost around US$211 million under the agreement for fiscal 2021.
