New impetus to deepen Viet Nam-China relations
National Assembly (NA) President Tran Thanh Man has concluded an official visit to China, during which he co-chaired the second session of the Cooperation Committee between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Chinese National People’s Congress (NPC) at the invitation of Zhao Leji, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.
The trip, Man’s first to China as NA President, marked an important milestone in Viet Nam-China relations. It aimed to put into practice the foreign policy set out at the 14th National Party Congress, enhance the effectiveness of cooperation between the Vietnamese NA and the Chinese NPC, and reaffirm parliamentary cooperation as a pillar of bilateral relations. The visit also gave fresh momentum to taking the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and the building of a Viet Nam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, to a higher level in the new era.
Promoting parliamentary cooperation as a pillar of bilateral relations
NA President Tran Thanh Man’s visit took place against a backdrop of steadily strengthening cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Chinese NPC, which has yielded many practical results. High-level exchanges between the two legislatures have been maintained regularly.
During the visit, Man held talks with Zhao Leji, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. To further deepen bilateral relations in the coming period, NA President Tran Thanh Man and NPC Chairman Zhao Leji agreed that the two sides should maintain high-level exchanges, enhance strategic trust and build a stronger political foundation for cooperation across various channels and fields; elevate substantive bilateral cooperation to new heights; continuously consolidate the favourable social foundation for bilateral relations; strengthen cooperation between localities, people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in education, culture and tourism; coordinate more closely at multilateral forums; jointly manage the land border effectively; and better control and resolve differences while maintaining stability and peace at sea.
