Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships open in Hanoi

The competition drew the participation of 316 members from 14 countries and territories: Australia, Cambodia, Taiwan (China), Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, India, Iran, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

The gymnasts will compete for 68 sets of medals across 18 events, including men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, groups of three and five, and aerobic dance in three age groups.

The Vietnamese team features a total of 51 athletes competing across the 18 events.

According to Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Do Dinh Hong, the tournament is an opportunity for gymnasts to enhance their skills and promote the aerobic gymnastics movement in Asia, especially in Vietnam.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Yagi Kitagawa Tammy, Aerobic Gymnastics Technical Committee President of the International Gymnastics Federation, voiced high appreciation for Vietnam’s efforts to organise and develop aerobics, as well as its hospitality and experience in organising large events in the region.

She expressed her confidence that the tournament will be a great success with Vietnam’s thorough preparations.
