Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed this on June 27 during a meeting with leaders of eight delegations attending the fifth ASEAN School Games in Hanoi.

The Deputy PM praised their active participation at the games and thanked the ASEAN School Sports Council (ASSC) for helping Vietnam host the event.

The annual games contribute to the development of sports and foster friendship, solidarity and mutual understanding between students in the region, Nhan said.

ASSC President Hawazi Daipi said the success of this year’s event promoted regional sports activities and offered opportunities for exchanges among Southeast Asian students.

He added that he would like to see more such events in the future to enhance the movement for sports in schools.
