On August 29, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) of Denmark collaborated with Binh Thuan Province’s Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment to hold a workshop entitled “Binh Thuan: Prospects for the development of offshore wind power industry to promote the marine economy”.

The event discussed opportunities for Binh Thuan when fostering the offshore wind power industry, including socio-economic development, such as supply chain promotion, and job opportunities; and marine economic development, such as fishing, tourism, ecosystem conservation, and others.

According to Stuart Livesey, a representative of CIP in Vietnam and CEO of the La Gan offshore wind power project, Binh Thuan is one of the localities in Vietnam with the best wind potential and ideal seabed conditions for installing fixed wind turbine foundations. The province also has the potential to promote large-scale seaports and power grids for exploiting wind energy.

He noted that the implementation of offshore wind power project promises to create high-quality job opportunities for workers, transfer advanced technologies to Vietnam, boost the supply chain, and develop the offshore wind power industry in Vietnam.

Experts from CIP shared in-depth experiences drawn from the development of offshore wind power projects around the world which stressed many benefits to the community in harmony with fishing activities, tourism, and conservation of the ecosystem.

In addition, based on research by CIP, the localisation rate at an offshore wind farm in Vietnam could reach over 40%.

The CIP is one of the world’s top three offshore wind power developers and the largest global investor in renewable energy development based in Denmark. The group has many prospects to cooperate with Vietnamese partners to develop successful large-scale offshore wind power projects (over 500 MW) in the country.

Standing Vice Chairman of Binh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee Phan Van Dang said that the province is prioritising the development of offshore wind power because of limited onshore land funds. The province also wished to receive investment from Danish enterprises in the offshore wind power sector.
