Organised by the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, the event features the participation of nearly 1,500 delegates from more than 40 countries and territories, comprised of representatives from rice-producing and exporting countries, as well as rice importers and traders from such countries as China, Japan, Malaysia, Iraq, Iran, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Lao.
Thailand Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the opening ceremony on May 29. On the occasion, the Prime Minister gave a keynote speech on the topic "Thai Rice Trade and Its Future”. He outlined the major policies of the Thailand government with regards to the sustainable development of the country’s rice industry.
The three-day event is intended to serve as a forum for players in the rice trade to meet and exchange views, contributing to the development of the global rice industry. It will also provide an opportunity for rice importers and exporters to hold trade negotiations.
The convention is divided into two parts. The first part consists of lectures and panel discussions. The second part is an exhibition entitled "Rice Plus.” It will feature the royal initiatives of rice research and development in remembrance of His Majesty, the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and in honor of His Majesty the King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun. The exhibition will also include a display of food products and non-food products.
On the occasion, the Vietnamese delegation will have working session with Thailand’s Minister Commerce Apiradi Tantraporn, the Thai Rice Exporters Association and visit some rice processing establishments in Thailand.
