The plant has a capacity of 150 megawatts with an expected annual output of 600 million kWh.

The project was commenced in late 2012 and is designed to support the development of the aluminium industry in the Central Highlands. Its total cost is estimated at more than 6.11 trillion (US$268.84 million).

Earlier in September, the first turbine of the Dong Nai 5 station had been connected to the national power grid, followed by the second turbine two months later.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on December 20, Lam Dong Chairman Doan Van Viet said the Dong Nai 5 would make important contributions to economic development in provinces throughout the Central Highlands, as well as contribute to ensuring national energy security.
