Laos steps up digital transformation for socio-economic development

Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has underlined the need to promote the three pillars of the digital economy, digital government and digital community to provide a boost for its socio-economic development.

He recently made the statement at a conference held in Vientiane on applying blockchain technology to promote the digital economy in Laos.

According to the Lao government leader, the Southeast Asian country should make more effective use of digital technologies and urge bolder actions on the three pillars mentioned.

He said technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, big data, virtual reality and augmented reality, will provide new opportunities and services, and drive innovation in socio-economic development and governance.

Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone stated that the country is working on various programmes to develop the national digital economy in the coming years.

In addition to the need to develop human resources and infrastructure, the Lao leader also stressed that it is necessary to issue legal regulations to support digital transformation plans in Laos.
