Message on the responsibility of building a fair and sustainable world

This is the fifth time Vietnam has been invited to a G20 Summit and the first time a senior Vietnamese leader has visited the Dominican Republic.

This year’s G20 Summit takes place against a backdrop of continued complex and unpredictable changes in global political, security and economic situations, profoundly impacting global security and development.

Conflict flashpoints continue to evolve in a complex manner and persist without solutions. The world economy maintains its recovery, albeit slowly and unevenly. Countries are actively implementing new development policies and strategies, ensuring economic security, unlocking internal resources, and promoting diversification of connections and economic transformation.

With the participation of the world’s major economies, the G20 continues to be assessed as an influential mechanism, contributing to shaping global standards and rules. Held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet”, the 19th G20 Summit prioritises discussions on combating poverty, inclusive and sustainable development, energy transition, and reform of global governance systems.

Along with G20 members, Vietnam is one of the guest countries attending the Summit in Brazil. Vietnam has participated four times in G20 Summits as a guest and in its capacity as ASEAN Chair and APEC host. As G20 Chair in 2024, Brazil promotes several important initiatives, inviting Vietnam to participate in the Call to Action on Global Governance Reform and the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty.

Relations between Vietnam and the Dominican Republic have developed positively since establishing diplomatic relations in July 2005. Both sides maintain delegation exchanges and implement political consultation mechanisms between their foreign ministries. Economic and trade cooperation shows an upward trend. The Dominican Republic is interested in cooperating with Vietnam in telecommunications, energy, oil and gas, and building materials production. The two countries maintain coordination and mutual support in multilateral mechanisms and international organisations, such as the United Nations and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s trip to attend the G20 Summit, engage in bilateral activities in Brazil, and pay an official visit to the Dominican Republic continues to affirm and implement the foreign policy outlined in the 13th Party Congress and the Secretariat’s directive on promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy.

Vietnam’s participation in the G20 Summit as a guest country, not in the role of chairing any regional forum or organisation, demonstrates that the international community and Brazil highly value the role of Vietnam’s economy in the world economy and respect Vietnam’s position and contributions in multilateral forums and in common efforts to address global challenges.

By participating in the G20 Summit, Vietnam continues to assert its stance of promoting multilateralism and international solidarity, affirming the role of the G20 in solving global issues and promoting inclusive and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s bilateral activities in Rio de Janeiro, which coincide with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, contribute to advancing the Vietnam-Brazil comprehensive partnership to a new development phase.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to the Dominican Republic marks a historic milestone in the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. Towards the 20th anniversary of Vietnam-Dominican Republic diplomatic relations, the visit helps strengthen the foundation of friendship and political trust and enhance more substantive and effective cooperation between the two countries.

May Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s working trip to attend the G20 Summit, engage in bilateral activities in Brazil and pay an official visit to the Dominican Republic be a great success, conveying an important message to the international community about a dynamic, innovative and responsible Vietnam that is ready to shoulder and share common tasks, contributing to the goal of building a just world and a sustainable planet.
