Entitled “Vietnam-France relations: From war to peace”, the seminar reviewed historical periods in the relationship between the two countries since 1973.

French President François Mitterrand became the first Western leader to visit Vietnam in 1993. Since then, the two countries have made unremitting efforts to cultivate their friendship and cooperation in many fields.

Professor Pierre Journoud, a contemporary history lecturer at France's Paul-Valery Montpellier 3 University, said that Vietnam and France can further deepen their strategic partnership by setting up working groups to work together on various issues.

He noted that regarding economic terms, the two countries still have a lot of potential, and it is necessary to encourage more entrepreneurs and startups to invest more in Vietnam as well as promote exports of Vietnam to France, including the export of garment products to France.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang, the 50 years marks a long journey in Vietnam-France diplomatic relations. There is huge potential in the friendship and cooperation relationship between Vietnam and France, requiring the two countries to have policies and effective coordination to promote such potential.

On the same day, the Montpellier authorities in coordination with the Paul Valery Montpellier 3 University and the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in France organised an exhibition on Vietnam’s seas and islands.
