Speaking at the event, Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion Mary Ng affirmed the importance of the relationship between Canada and Vietnam as the both countries have joined the CPTPP and Vietnam is the biggest trading partner of Canada in ASEAN.
She also said that the Canadian side can sponsor Canadian businesses to study the market, participate in trade fairs and seek business opportunities in Vietnam.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Jay Allen noted that the two countries have great cooperation opportunities in many fields, particularly agriculture, seafood, infrastructure, clean technology and ICT.
Director of Canada - Vietnam Trade Council Dr. Nguyen Dai Trang said that since Vietnam approved the CPTPP in November 2018, Canadian enterprises have paid more attention to the Vietnamese market and that the council would further promote the introduction of the Vietnamese market to Canada.
According to the latest statistics, Canada exported goods worth total CAD1.02 billion in 2018, while imports from Vietnam amounted to CAD5.38 billion.
