Da Nang: 81-year-old COVID-19 patient miraculously recovers

A critically-ill 81-year-old COVID-19 patient residing in Da Nang has recovered miraculously and was discharged from hospital on June 15.

The patient has a history of hypertension and heart failure, having to rely on mechanical ventilation and continuous dialysis at Da Nang Lung Hospital.

Hospitalised for treatment on May 7, the patient has tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 four times on June 7, 9, 11 and 14, thus is eligible to be discharged from the hospital.

On the same morning, the hospital also announced the recovery and discharge of four other patients.

All of them will continue to isolate and monitor their health at home for 14 days as prescribed.

The latest recoveries bring the total to 4,236, but the national tally of COVID-19 infections rose to 10,999 after 118 more locally-transmitted cases were confirmed this noon.

According to the Ministry of Health, among the new cases, 69 were found in Bac Giang, which is the country’s current largest pandemic hotspot; 29 in Ho Chi Minh City, 15 in Bac Ninh, three in Ha Tinh, and one each in Hanoi and Lang Son.

So far, Vietnam has logged 9,356 domestic infections and 1,643 imported cases. The number of COVID-19 cases since April 27, when the latest outbreak began, amounts to 7,786. The death toll remains at 61.

Among the active patients undergoing treatment at medical establishments, 431 have tested negative for coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 72 twice and 73 thrice.

Twenty-three provinces have gone 14 consecutive days without any new cases.

Ha Nam’s Provincial Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has decided to end the medical isolation in some hamlets of Cong Ly commune, Ly Nhan district, while implementing strict social distancing in these areas for 14 days, starting 8:00 am on June 15. As of June 15, the province has not recorded any new COVID-19 cases for eight days.

After detecting two infections, the Hanoi-based Duc Giang General Hospital has announced it will temporarily stop receiving patients from the morning of June 15 to 20. Currently, the hospital is continuing to investigate, trace and take samples for testing of medical staff, patients, and patients' family members. Last night, the hospital disinfected the areas related to the patients. Duc Giang General Hospital is treating 143 COVID-19 patients.

On the morning of June 15, the Centre for Disease Control of Binh Duong province said the province recorded 12 more infection cases on the evening of June 14. Regarding the positive cases, the People's Committee of Tan Uyen town has decided to implement a strict social distancing order in Tan Uyen from 0:00 on June 15 until further notice.
