Government Decree 112, issued in April 2026 and regulating the international transfer of greenhouse gas emission mitigation outcomes and carbon credits, took effect on May 19. It has opened new opportunities for Viet Nam’s forestry sector to access international carbon markets and raise the value of its forests.

Viet Nam is entering an important stage in the development of its carbon market, as greenhouse gas emission quotas and carbon credits are put on the domestic trading platform. This is not only a technical step in emissions management, but also opens up a new approach: using market instruments to encourage businesses to reduce emissions, innovate technology and enhance competitiveness as the green economy becomes an inevitable requirement.
