According to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, some localities such as Quang Nam and Kon Tum are growing 6,000 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng while some enterprises have invested in processing and diversifying ginseng products.

To date, the two provinces have planned ginseng development zones with a total area of over 47,000 hectares as well as invested nearly 472 billion VND (20.3 million USD) into building infrastructure for the ginseng growing zones.

Within the workshop, local leaders, managers, scientists and representatives of enterprises discussed the potential, state of development, and conservation of Ngoc Linh ginseng in recent times.

Many stated that it is necessary to strongly promote Ngoc Linh ginseng in both domestic and foreign markets and turn it into a national key product.

Some delegates suggested that the government should introduce mechanisms to attract enterprises to grow and process Ngoc Linh ginseng and create a set of standards to facilitate its access to the international market.

MARD Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh informed the workshop that the ministry has been assigned with the task of building a programme on the development of Ngoc Linh ginseng until 2030 with a view to 2045 to present to the Prime Minister before September 30 this year.

Under the plan, Vietnam will allocate a total of about 200,000 hectares to growing ginseng in the provinces of Quang Nam, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Lam Dong, Nghe An, Lai Chau and Lao Cai.
