The figures were announced by the Ministry of Trade at a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 26.
According to statistics, the average export price in the reviewed period reached 529 USD per tonne, up 8.8% year on year.
Asian was the biggest importer of Vietnamese rice in the first quarter at nearly 1.57 million tonnes, accounting for 84.7% of the volume – an increase of 52.2% against the same period of 2022.
The second largest export market for Vietnamese rice was Africa, followed by European countries.
The Agency for Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that Vietnamese rice exports are on the right track, with regular white rice maintaining a stable proportion, while fragrant and sticky rice witnessed an increase in export value.
Although the export of organic rice and rice fortified with micronutrients remain modest, it has helped to diversify the rice products exported from Vietnam.
In 2022, Vietnam exported nearly 7.2 million tonnes of rice, earning 3.49 billion USD.
