The figure in May alone was estimated at US$400 million, a surge of 48.3% compared with the same period last year.
China currently remains the top importer of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetables with 63.2% of the total export value in the first five months. Vegetables and fruit shipped to this market reached US$866.19 million, up 16.3% year-on-year.
In April 2021, China imported the most bananas from Vietnam, accounting for 42% of its total banana imports.
According to the MoIT’s Export-Import Department, vegetables and fruits exported to the Chinese market are showing positive signs, however, due to the fourth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam, in addition to a surplus in the Chinese market, the export growth of Vietnamese fruit and vegetable products to this market will be hindered in the near future.
Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable products are still witnessing many positive signs in many major markets such as the US, Japan, Russia, and Australia.
Regarding lychee exports, the fourth outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in the middle of the lychee harvest season has made the export of this fruit difficult. However, thanks to many flexible solutions, ministries, localities and businesses efforts to export lychee are succeeding.
The Vietnam Trade Office in Australia will also make proposals to Australian agencies to promote favourable customs clearance procedures for Vietnamese lychee. It is expected that in 2021, about 100 tonnes of Vietnamese lychee will be exported to South and Western Australia.
