India's federal health ministry Tuesday said the predictions about COVID-19 third wave should be taken very seriously and people need to strictly follow the appropriate behaviour and not violate the set protocol.

"People are taking predictions about the COVID-19 third wave like weather prediction reports, very casually. The third wave predictions have to be taken very seriously," said Lav Agarwal, a senior official of the health ministry during an official briefing.

The health ministry has been displaying photographs of crowded tourists places and markets during daily briefings in a bid to warn people about the third wave of the ongoing pandemic.

Experts say the pandemic gains ground every time social distancing norms are violated.

The ministry said failing to adhere to the COVID-19 appropriate behavior will usher the country into a third wave.
