The State leader congratulated Osius on his successful tenure in Vietnam, noting that the ambassador had been involved in the organisation of a number of mutual visits made by the senior leaders of both sides, including General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s historic visit to the US in July 2015, President Barack Obama’s visit to Vietnam in July 2016, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to the US in May 2017 and the upcoming Vietnam visit to be made by President Donald Trump.

Bilateral trade revenues between Vietnam and the US have grown by over 47% during Osius’s working term, he said, expressing his recognition of the efforts that are underway by the US side aiming to complete the Da Nang Airport detoxification project and then Bien Hoa Airport.

President Quang voiced his delight at the active cooperation between the two sides in regional and international issues, including aviation security, search and rescue and response to natural disasters, as well as their effective coordination at multilateral forums.

He thanked the US side for transferring a number of ships to the Vietnam Coast Guard, helping the force to enhance its law enforcement capabilities at sea, whilst also highly appreciating the US’s support for Vietnam in joining UN peacekeeping operations.

Education is a leading national policy of Vietnam, the President emphasised, calling on Ted Osius to continue making contributions to the development of the Vietnam-US educational partnership in his new position as the Vice President of the Fulbright Vietnam University.

For his part, Ted Osius expressed his deep sentiments for a beautiful and hospitable Vietnam, as well as his delight at remaining in Vietnam in a new position, thus making further contributions to the development of the US-Vietnam relations.

The newly appointed US Ambassador to Vietnam is looking forward to assuming office in the country and wishes to present his credentials to President Tran Dai Quang before the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 takes place in Da Nang.

Touching on US President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Vietnam and his participation in the APEC Summit 2017, President Quang stated that Vietnam is willing to welcome the US leader and that the two sides will hold discussions in an open and frank manner, in the spirit of mutual understanding, with the aim of further accelerating the bilateral ties in order to meet the common aspirations of the peoples of both countries.

Expressing his admiration for Vietnam’s preparation and organisation work for the APEC Year 2017, Osius noted that Vietnam has demonstrated its dynamism and activeness by organising the APEC events in many different localities, which has helped foreign leaders, senior officials and businesses to get a deeper insight into the Vietnamese country and people.

The US Embassy in Vietnam has implemented thorough preparations for President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam, he said, voicing his belief that the visit would be a success and become a significant landmark in the development of US-Vietnam relations.
