The Deputy PM chaired a meeting with ministries in Hanoi on June 1 to discuss measures to ease difficulties faced in the production and operation of enterprises in the manufacturing and processing, mining, and chemicals industries in support of economic growth.

The Government aimed to reach an economic growth rate of 6.7% in 2017 which was said to be a tough but feasible target, according Deputy PM Dung.

He asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to assist enterprises in developing overseas markets and making full use of signed free trade agreements while effectively dealing with protectionism and technical barriers from foreign markets.

The authorised ministry was also told to facilitate enterprises to expand their operations on both domestic and foreign markets.

"It is urgent to eliminate difficulties for enterprises through policies on taxation and fees to help them cut down costs, expand the market, and compete with imported products as well as increase production output," the Deputy PM emphasised.

He also made the request to address stagnant and suspended projects to put them into operation soon, contributing to boosting the economic growth rate in 2017 and in the coming years.

The mining industry was directed to increase its output this year, particularly the output of coal, oil and gas. The oi and gas sector was told to extract an additional 1 million tonnes of oil and an additional 1 billion m3 of gas this year.

Meanwhile the garment, footwear and bag sectors must maintain a growth rate of above 10% as these sectors have a high rate of localisation, employing a large number of workers and dominating many foreign markets.

In addition, the automobile industry is encouraged to increase the localisation rate while enhancing participation on the global value chain.

Deputy PM Dung also requested the MoIT to quickly issue specific regulations on the processing of several minerals and encourage domestic enterprises to prioritise using minerals from domestic sources.
