Egyptian newspaper praises prospects for cooperation with Vietnam

The marine economy and tourism are the main areas for potential cooperation which will mutually benefit both the Governments and peoples of Vietnam and Egypt, an Egyptian daily newspaper has said.

The assessment was made in an article on the marine economy and tourism - the focus of bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt, published in Al Messa newspaper, one of the most prestigious Egyptian daily newspapers, on July 20.

In the article, the author Refat Khaled stresses that during the visit to Egypt in last May, Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education confirmed that the relationship between Vietnam and Egypt is witnessing good development in all areas, especially after the historic visit to Vietnam by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in 2017, which has promoted cooperation between the two countries in many areas, especially when it comes to the marine economy and tourism.

According to Refat Khaled, as a major North African country, Egypt has always held a significant geo-strategic position, serving as the gateway between the three continents of Africa, Europe and Asia.

Meanwhile, Vietnam has 48 bays and more than 3,000 islands in the East Sea. Regarding fishery resources, Vietnam is on the list of 20 most economically advantageous seas for marine fisheries in the world, with many species of high economic value.

In terms of tourism, the article said that Egypt is famous for its ancient civilisation and vibrant culture. Therefore, it is also an increasingly popular destination for Vietnamese tourists. The number of Vietnamese tourists to Egypt is currently on the increase.

In 2017, Vietnam welcomed about 36,000 visitors from African countries, including Egypt, out of a total of 12 million international visitors. Visitors to Vietnam enjoyed hundreds of the world’s most famous white sand beaches in Ha Long, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Phu Quoc, along the country’s 3,260 km long coastline.

According to the Arabic daily newspaper, Vietnam and Egypt signed nine cooperation documents, including four agreements related to the marine economy and tourism. This shows that the two sectors are the focuses and priorities for cooperation, contributing to promoting the good traditional friendship between Egypt and Vietnam.
