Cuban leaders congratulate Vietnam on 49th national reunification anniversary

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz has extended congratulations to the Vietnamese Government and people on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2024).

In a message posted on social media on April 30, he emphasised that this event paved the way for peace and unity in Vietnam.

In a similar message, Roberto Morales Ojeda, permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, praised the heroic spirit of the Vietnamese people, the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh and the steadfastness of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which led to the national reunification.

Rosario Pentón Díaz, Principal of the Ñico López Higher Party School, said national heroism led Vietnam to the 1975 victory, which remains a valuable lesson for the world today.

Also on April 30, Cuban News Agency Prensa Latina ran an article by Moisés Pérez Mok, capturing the festive atmosphere in Vietnam with a wide range of activities.

The journalist said the celebration offers a chance for Vietnamese people to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the fatherland, and affirmed that the victory 49 years ago is a clear testament to the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people in the fight against foreign invaders.

The article also highlighted Vietnam’s economic achievements, with its gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate ranking eighth globally and second in Southeast Asia in 2019.

The country expects to rank second in the region after Indonesia by 2026, and become the 20th largest economy in the world by the end of 2029, according to the article.
