Transport infrastructure - important prerequisite for socio-economic development: Deputy PM

Transport projects must be conducted as soon as possible so that about 3,000km of expressways may be put into operation by 2025, including the Eastern North-South Expressway.

The remark was made by Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh at a meeting with the Ministry of Transport on October 27.

The Deputy PM acknowledged and lauded the efforts of the Ministry of Transport in completing the planning of the road, rail, maritime shipping, inland waterways, and aviation.

“These plans are a very important premise to realising the tasks of the 13th National Party Congress and the socio-economic development plan in the next five years because infrastructure must always be one step ahead to promote civilisation and modernity,” Thanh noted.

The government official also praised the Ministry of Transport in ensuring progress of key traffic projects including the North-South Expressway. It is scheduled that more than 650km of expressway will be completed by 2023.

The Deputy PM also suggested the Transport Ministry focus on building a detailed progress plan of the Long Thanh Airport, completing procedures to put the Cat Linh – Ha Dong urban railway into operation in November 2021, completing the installation of non-stop automatic toll collection system across the country, ensuring the circulation of goods between localities, and others.

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The said that the ministry has resumed operations of series of transport activities in accordance with regulations on pandemic prevention and control.

In particular, the ministry has made every effort to disburse about 62% of public investment capital by the end of September 2021, much higher than the national average rate of 47%. The ministry is expected to disburse 90% of public investment by the end of 2021 and the remaining 10% in January 2022.
