The event, which was organised by the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA) to honour the outstanding cooperative managers nationwide in 2014, saw the presence of Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan, National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu and Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy PM Hai said that the development of collectives still saw shortcomings as several collectives’ operation capacity was weak and ineffective. This required the collectives’ managers to strive to improve their efficiency, Hai added.

He asked the VCA and collectives’ members to fulfill their tasks in boosting collective economic development, enhance communication about Party policy on collective economics, and strengthen current collectives and form new ones.

He also required the VCA to enhance patriotic emulation campaigns through repeating exemplary collective and individual models, turning collectives into an economic model of democracy, equality and prestige in the society.

Collectives’ operation has boosted household economic development, connected household members with each other and linked the members with medium- and small-sized businesses while mobilising social resources to expand production and trade, moving the economic structure towards industrialisation and modernisation, particularly in agriculture and rural areas, and creating 13 million jobs across the country, Hai said.
