He made the statement while attending a conference held by the EVN in Hanoi on January 6-7 to review its operations in 2015 and its plans for 2016.

The Deputy PM also hailed the power sector for the increase of multi-purpose hydroelectric power plants in recent years, helping provide a balanced water supply for daily life and agricultural production.

In the past five years, the EVN has balanced its budget, reformed and made electricity prices transparent, and changed its awareness of doing business and serving customers.

Regarding plans for the next five years, Deputy PM Hai said that it would be difficult for the EVN to mobilise capital for investing in power projects due to the incomplete capital market, but the power group still has to provide efficient electricity for the economy and must take the lead in developing new energy and renewable energy resources.

He also requested the power group boost administrative reform including the online collection of monthly electricity bills.

EVN Deputy General Director Dinh Quang Tri said the group met the people's demands for electricity for daily life, production and business activities in 2015 with a total commercial electricity volume of 143.34 billion kWh of electricity, up 11.44% over 2014.

In the past five years, the commercial electricity volume has increased by 10.84% per year. The electricity provided for the industry-construction sector surged 11.7%, for consumption up 9.6%, for trade and services up 14.1%, for the agriculture sector up 20.1% and for other sectors up 7.6% per year, Tri noted.

Tri added that the commercial electricity volume in 2016 would increase by 11-12% compared to 2015 and the EVN would be able to provide an efficient supply of electricity for the nation.
