Industrial production index increases by 9.4% in April

The index of industrial production (IIP) in April saw an increase of 9.4% over the same period in 2017.

Reports on the socio-economic situation released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam in April also showed that the IIP witnessed an 11.4% annual increase in the first four months of the year.

The main driver of the surge, the processing and manufacturing sector, increased 14%, contributing 10.6 percentage points to the overall growth.

In addition, the electricity production and distribution sector grew 9.7%, contributing 0.9 percentage point, and water supply and waste management grew 5.5%, contributing 0.1 percentage point.

Meanwhile, the mining sector decreased by 1.2%, contributing 0.2 percentage points.

In April, raw steel and iron witnessed the largest output expansion of 38.2%, followed by synthetic cloth (up 26.2%), powder milk (20.7%) and television sets (17.5%).
