Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Ngo Van Ich, said seafood is one of Vietnam’s key economic sectors, contributing about 4% of the country’s total export revenue.

In 2017, Vietnamese seafood enterprises tried to overcome many difficulties and challenges to realise the export target of US$8 billion, he said, adding that in the first six months of 2018, seafood exports reached US$4 billion, up 10.5% over the same period last year.

Vietfish 2018 is the largest exhibition since the event was launched 20 years ago. It will feature 374 stalls; an increase of 3.6% compared to last year, with firms from 14 countries and territories, 66% of which are Vietnamese.

There will be a wide range of products on display, including aquaculture and services, machinery, chemicals, additives and cold storage equipment.

A series of activities also took place on the sidelines of the exhibition, including a cooking show, launches of new products and an aquaculture seminar.
