The requirement was made by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc during a conference held by the Party agency in Hanoi on January 17 to summarise its operation in 2019 and discuss the roadmap for deploy tasks in 2020.
Reports at the event showed that last year the commission completed the construction of eight major projects related to socio-economic advisory on agriculture, farmers, rural areas, response to climate change, strengthening resource management and environmental protection, and sustainable economic development.
Monitoring, inspecting and supervising the implementation of guidelines and policies of the Party on socio-economic issues has been implemented well by the agency. The major events the Party agency hosted in 2019, including the Vietnam Economic Forum, the Vietnam Private Sector Economic Forum, and the Industry 4.0 Summit 2019, gathered prestigious experts, scientists, managers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs both at home and abroad to discuss policies, strategies and proposals to the Party and State, thus helping to complete Vietnam’s economic development mechanisms and policies.
Speaking at the event, PM Phuc expressed his great praise for the efforts, creativity and hardworking spirit of the commission in helping to find solutions to problems and create a premise for rapid and sustainable economic development, while also strengthening the Party's leadership and effective role in socio-economic development.
The PM emphasised the need to renew the thinking and mindset on development and management, reflected in the resolutions and conclusions by the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat, aiming to solve bottlenecks in economic thinking.
Regarding tasks for 2020, PM Phuc asked the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission to strengthen its coordination with the Government to facilitate and inspect the implementation of the Party’s resolution on the private economy’s development, as well as others directives on the nation’s socio-economic growth.
He also urged the commission to focus on studying strategic issues, such as climate change, adjusting Vietnam’s industrialisation strategy, marine economic development, making use of the “golden” population structure and seeking solutions for the digital economic development.
It is also worth noting that it is necessary for the think-tank to research strategies on building economic zones, industrial parks and special economic zones, in addition to policies related to land and urban management to build a resilient economy in the new period, PM Phuc stressed.
