Cambodian media highlights PM Hun Manet’s official visit to Viet Nam and attendance at AFF 2026

The Cambodian press published numerous articles covering Prime Minister Hun Manet’s official visit to Viet Nam and his attendance at the 2026 ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) on June 8-9, highlighting the sound and comprehensive development of Cambodia–Viet Nam relations and commending the AFF’s positive role in promoting ASEAN cooperation.

The Cambodian media promptly reported on Prime Minister Hun Manet’s activities during his official visit to Viet Nam and participation in the 2026 AFF, including the reception hosted by Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam for the Cambodian Government leader on June 9, and Prime Minister Hun Manet’s meeting with Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on June 8.

On June 9, the Kampuchea newspaper reported that at the meeting between Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Prime Minister Hun Manet, the two leaders exchanged views on expanding cooperation in key sectors including economy, trade and investment, politics, security and defence, education and vocational training, tourism, culture, and infrastructure connectivity.

Both sides agreed that Cambodia and Viet Nam continue to possess considerable potential and opportunities to complement and support each other in promoting economic and trade development for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.

Khmer Times reported that at the talks between Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Prime Minister Hun Manet, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral relations and agreed to organise a series of activities in 2027 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Viet Nam.

They also pledged anew to strengthen ties based on good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term stability.

The two prime ministers discussed expanding cooperation in key sectors, including politics, trade, investment, security, defence, education, vocational training, healthcare, tourism, culture, energy, infrastructure development, and people-to-people exchanges.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the importance of accelerating decisions on the connection between the Phnom Penh–Bavet Expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City–Moc Bai Expressway, enhancing waterway transport links, and increasing direct flight connections between the two countries. He also called for simplified procedures for direct cross-border cargo transportation to facilitate trade and reduce transit times.

The two leaders concluded the meeting by exchanging views on regional and international cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to working together to advance the shared interests of both countries.

Reporting on Prime Minister Hun Manet’s speech at the 2026 AFF, the Cambodian National News Agency (AKP) stated that the Cambodian Government leader highlighted three main priorities: peace, economic cooperation and people.

According to the Cambodian Prime Minister, the AFF has become an important forum for frank, strategic and forward-looking discussions on some of the most pressing issues facing the region and the world.
